5 Fell Divers made the trip to St Abbs to dive the Marine Reserve. We had to leave one of our faithful divers behind after he lost a battle with an evil gymnasium machine and was injured and unable to dive (a lesson learned here by us all – gyms are evil).
We arrived at St Abbs with perfect timing and cordially instructed the Skipper on how to tell the time and the time zone differences between Newcastle and St Abbs.
Both teams of divers drew straws as to which pair would have Dave accompany them, and the Wigham’s got the luck of the draw / short straw (you decide) and Dave joined this group, to dive as a 3.
We dived 2 scenic spots and on the Marine Reserve. On the first dive we found every lobster in the world, they were everywhere! (except in the lobster pots, we couldn’t believe they were not brimming full).
It was good to see St Abbs full of divers and the boats making multiple dive trips in the same day. This meant an extended shore break, whilst Pathfinder took out a second trip.
The Second dive was an extension of the first dive, another scenic location within the Reserve, where this time we spotted shoals of fish.
All in all 2 very relaxed and easy dives, both around the 15-20 meters depth and 30-40 minutes bottom time each dive.
The perfect way to spend a bank holiday weekend (especially the debriefing pint and food in the New Inn – Coldingham).
