SCUBA TANKS

Without an air tank, you will find it difficult to breathe underwater. We have plenty.

DEEP DIVING POOL

We have the use of Dunston Leisure Centre’s pool for practice exercises and try dives. Dunston pool have a depth of 3.7 metres which is ideal for diver training needs.

Our highly-trained staff will aim to pass on their experience to all divers while keeping them safe, confident and happy.

The Farne Islands

The Farne Islands are a popular haunt for thousands of nesting seabirds and also a popular location for scuba divers, with a variety of sites suitable for all levels of diver. The islands appeal to divers for the seals and wrecks. The grey seal colony at the Farnes numbers about 5,000. They are curious and will often look in on divers in the water and are impressive to watch underwater.

Hundreds of ships have been wrecked on the Farnes over the years, providing plenty for wreck divers to look at. Notable and popular wreck sites are –

Chris Christenson, a Danish steamer that sank on 16 February 1915. This wreck lies close into the reef off the south tip of Longstone.

Abessinia, a 453-foot (138 m) German steamship that drove onto Knifestone, Outer Farnes, on 3 September 1921.

Brittania, a 740t, 210-foot (64 m) British cargo/passenger steamship that struck the Callers, Outer Farnes, in thick fog on 25 September 1915.

St Andre was a 1120t French steamship carrying pig iron. On 28 October 1908 this vessel hit the Crumstone and floated off to sink finally at Staple island.

Beadnell Bay

Beadnell is a popular fishing destination due to the plentiful marine life, and it’s also possible to see and explore the wreck of the Yewglen.

Beadnell is a must dive location for any diver. The versatility and variety on offer in this one location is what makes Beadnell Bay the popular dive location that it is today.

Beadnell offers shore dives which are second to none. The access to the drop off from the pear, makes this a popular dive with those who like looking at crustaceans in rocks and a plentiful array of sea life, whilst still being relatively protected from the currents of the open water.

Beadnell Bay offers a launching facility (at a charge) for ribs and for those without access to their own boats, there is also the opportunity to use one of the many local charters which run out of this bay.

With access to a boat, this opens up the opportunities offered by Beadnell Bay to go further afield. Beadnell’s location makes it an ideal starting point if going north to the ever so popular Farne Islands and there is also options to travel south, for some amazing drift dives with the picturesque back drop of Dunstanburgh Castle.

Whichever option you choose to take, Beadnell will not disappoint in offering a great dive.

St Abbs

St Abbs is a popular site for scuba divers. The sea around the village is unusually clear, in contrast to the more silt-laden coastal waters further to the north or south. These clear waters and the spectacular underwater scenery resulted in Britain’s first Voluntary Marine Reserve being established and was established August 1984.

Shore diving to a depth of about 15 metres is possible from the rocks on the outside of the harbour wall. It is common for trainees to do initial sea dives here.

The double archway at “Cathedral Rock” is just 50 metres from the shore. Several small, nearby rocky islands, such as “Big Green Carr”, “Broad Craig” and “Little Carr” are near to the harbour and easily can be circumnavigated underwater.

Local boat charters are available at St Abbs for dive locations further afield which are not readily available from shore diving.
